Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood: Standard Examiner Publisher, Charles Horton
Tuesday Mar 24, 2015
Tuesday Mar 24, 2015
The Standard Examiner newspaper has kept the pulse and connected our community for 127 years. Serving Davis, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder and Cache Counties, the Standard Examiner is the 3rd largest daily newspaper in the State of Utah with 63,000 subscribers. Two years ago, Charles Horton came to Ogden to take the reins at The Standard and is determined to keep the paper focused on community engagement and quality reporting. Despite newspapers becoming more popular, and the demand for news at an all-time high, the profitability of newspapers nationwide are at all-time lows. However, this is not the case at The Standard Examiner where the paper continues to prosper and grow under Horton’s leadership. How does Charles Horton keep The Standard Examiner relevant in a digital world where consumers want their news for free? Listen in as we sit down with the publisher and CEO of The Standard Examiner where he answers those questions and more in this episode of Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood.

Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood - Brian Nicholson
Monday Feb 23, 2015
Monday Feb 23, 2015
Here's the first ever Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood podcast! John Wojciechowski chose to base the podcast off the book "I Am Ogden," produced by local photographer Brian Nicholson. Now Rereleased under The Banyan Collective. Original Copy Excerpt Posted 1.31.14 on The Striders Running Blog:Episode 1 of Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood is in the books, or on the airwaves I should say. It was a pleasure and an honor to sit down with Ogden's own Brian Nicholson. We discussed the art of photography, 'selfies,' The Great Wall of China, the Utah Grand Slam, the Denver Broncos and his community portrait book 'I Am Ogden.' As you'll hear, Brian is very engaging and entertaining to listen to; we could have gone on for hours. Thanks, Brian.Huge hugs and kisses need to go out to my daughter, Jessica, for mixing the lead-in music for the show...Well, Jess is too old for hugs and kisses from her Dad anymore (boo), so I'll just say 'thank you and I love you!' We hope you enjoy the show...

Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood - Jerry Bovee
Friday Feb 20, 2015
Friday Feb 20, 2015
Brandon and I made a trip to Weber State’s Stewart Stadium…what an amazing setting for college football and track & field! It’s literally tucked into the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Anyway, since we were already loitering on campus and creeping everybody out, Jerry Bovee pulled us into his office and graciously agreed to an episode of Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood.Since 2009, Jerry Bovee has been the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Weber State University. Jerry is responsible for managing 16 NCAA Division 1 sport programs at WSU, and recently worked on a bid for the Big Sky Conference to host the men’s basketball tournament for the next three years. That sounds like a lot of work, Jerry is a busy guy, which is why it was an honor and privilege to have Jerry give us part of his day and report on the athletics programs at WSU. Take a listen, it’s a fun episode as we cover a lot of information ranging from football to track, softball and then to basketball. Damian Lillard...yeah, he definitely came up too. Did you see him play in the NBA All-Star game? Enjoy the show and stay tuned for more interviews from Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood.
