It was a pleasure and an honor to sit down with Ogden's own Brian Nicholson. We discussed the art of photography, 'selfies,' The Great Wall of China, the Utah Grand Slam, the Denver Broncos and his community portrait book 'I Am Ogden.' As you'll hear, Brian is very engaging and entertaining to listen to; we could have gone on for hours.  Thanks, Brian.Huge hugs and kisses need to go out to my daughter, Jessica, for mixing the lead-in music for the show...Well, Jess is too old for hugs and kisses from her Dad anymore (boo), so I'll just say 'thank you and I love you!' We hope you enjoy the show...

Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood - Jerry Bovee

Brandon and I made a trip to Weber State’s Stewart Stadium…what an amazing setting for college football and track & field!  It’s literally tucked into the base of the Wasatch Mountains.  Anyway, since we were already loitering on campus and creeping everybody out, Jerry Bovee pulled us into his office and graciously agreed to an episode of Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood.Since 2009, Jerry Bovee has been the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Weber State University.  Jerry is responsible for managing 16 NCAA Division 1 sport programs at WSU, and recently worked on a bid for the Big Sky Conference to host the men’s basketball tournament for the next three years.  That sounds like a lot of work, Jerry is a busy guy, which is why it was an honor and privilege to have Jerry give us part of his day and report on the athletics programs at WSU. Take a listen, it’s a fun episode as we cover a lot of information ranging from football to track, softball and then to basketball.  Damian Lillard...yeah, he definitely came up too.  Did you see him play in the NBA All-Star game? Enjoy the show and stay tuned for more interviews from Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood.

Interview: Derek Bowles – Crossroads Academy Many of us in Ogden recognize Crossroads as a skate shop and indoor park, and that it is, but it's also a way for youth to work on accessing their FLOW as a means to recovering from addictions. Derek Bowles, Program Director and Primary Therapist for Crossroads sits down with us to discuss how they use sports like snowboarding, rock climbing, wakeboarding, and skateboarding to ensure kids working through recovery are successful.

Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood - Amir Jackson, Nurture The Creative Mind

Fate, and the below freezing air of North Dakota, gifted us
with Amir Jackson and his ability to empower and inspire our community.  In 2007, after staging a hunger strike at a
local coffee shop, Amir founded the non-profit organization ‘Nurture the Creative
Mind,’ and with it, invested in our youth with the tools of creativity,
education and character development.  8
years later, Amir and NCM have affected thousands of youth and have inspired
them to be brave and explore new paths. 
Amir also put pianos on 25th Street.
It was an extreme honor for The Banyan Collective to sit
down with Amir and listen to stories of his youth and his thoughts on  ‘innovation and creativity.’  After listening to Amir speak for an hour, we
believe you’ll be as inspired as we are to become more involved in our
community and excited to serve in Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood. 
 
Nurture the Creative Mind is celebrating its 8th
Anniversary this Saturday, November 22nd from 6-10pm at Ogden’s
Union Station.  $15 gets you all the food
and drink you want (open bar) and lots of entertainment; 25 live acts and over
100 performers and art displays.  Ages 18
and under get in FREE.  All the ticket
