Bug Huckers Ep. 1 - Division of Wildlife Resources
Sunday Jul 19, 2015
Sunday Jul 19, 2015
Finally!!! Bug Huckers has put together a full length episode to further expand your Bug Hucking experience. It's a good thing we had the full hour because we have a lot of invaluable information about the Division of Wildlife Resources' Walk-In-Access program. With so much of Utah's fishable waters on private property and having to share the available public access with tubers and the like a congestion free fishing hole can be hard to come by. On this episode Danny and I sit down with Clint Brunson from the Utah DWR. Clint explains the ins and outs of the Walk-In-Access program and tells us how it provides Utah's fly fishers with an opportunity to catch fish on select sections of private water dedicated specifically to the outdoor gamesman. So, listen in and learn where to find your next Bug Hucking adventure.

MGN Show - OOA Hosts Brandon & Todd
Tuesday Jul 07, 2015
Tuesday Jul 07, 2015
Adventure has always been a way of life in Ogden; adventure
is the spirit of our little mountain town.
Adventure is the main theme of conversation at our gear shops, coffee
houses and watering holes. We’ll fish
for an hour before church, skin up the mountain before the ski lifts open,
sneak a trail run in on the BST during lunch then pedal home after work. But we
needed a voice…we needed a hero! The fates allowed it and we got our Batman
& Robin. In 2010, a chance encounter
occurred over a plate of mash potatoes at Grandma’s house between two
like-minded media nerds and adventure junkies.
Alas, the Ogden Outdoor Adventure show was born.
Brandon Long and Todd Oberndorfer had humble beginnings at
Weber State’s campus radio station reporting the ‘adventure’ news with experts
like Gear-Junkie-James and Trippy-Teresa, but fast forward 5 years and 200
Ogden Outdoor Adventure shows later and we have the media moguls we’re lucky to
have today…the voices of Ogden outdoor adventure! I was in attendance at Brandon & Todd’s
200th episode of the Ogden Outdoor Adventure show, graciously hosted
by the GOAL Foundation, and chatted them up about the history of the show,
their #1 fan and their quest for a podcasting Emmy. It’s a 24 minute action packed interview of one-liners
from Todd, reflections from Brandon and fact-checking from James and
Teresa. Thanks for the honor guys,
here’s to 200 more episodes…Cheers!

MGN Show - Wolf Creek & HEL's Half Pound
Saturday May 30, 2015
Saturday May 30, 2015
Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood spans 5 miles east through Ogden
Canyon and into beautiful Ogden Valley.
The options for outdoor recreation in Ogden Valley are vast and endless
with three popular mountain resorts located within minutes of each other, a
200-acre reservoir and a one-of-a-kind 16% grade paved road all affectionately
referred to as ‘HEL.’ We’ll get to that
in a second, but at the center of it all is the Wolf Creek Resort with its
famous 18-hole golf course, condos, homes and newly minted community gym. Wolf Creek proprietor and long time resident,
John Lewis, has his hands full maintaining the small town country feel of Ogden
Valley’s three communities of Huntsville, Eden and Liberty (HEL) but also
providing opportunities and amenities for HEL’s locals and visitors. John very much needs to talk and act like the
‘Mayor of HEL.’ He has our vote. In this episode of Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood, we sit down
with John Lewis and ask him some tough questions about building and developing
in a Valley where tensions and tempers can get high and hot with the locals as
they’re bombarded with recreationalists and other developers who don’t always
have the community’s best interests as a priority. No doubt about it, John is a family man who
loves the community where he and his wife chose to raise their children and
plan to continue to call home.
John and Wolf Creek are supporting and embracing The Valley
community in many ways. When approached
by a couple of local crazy brothers, Dave and Shane Martin, about hosting their
half-marathon race up and down Powder Mountain road’s 16% grade, John was
excited and eager to support the event. The
3rd Annual ‘HEL’s Half Pound’ will start and end at Wolf Creek this
August. Dave and Shane share with us the
inspiration and vision of HEL’s Half Pound and why the race is a rite of
passage for any runner to be welcomed into HEL.
It’s a fun interview and groundbreaking for The Banyan
Collective as we’ve recorded podcasts before next to rivers, in the mountains,
on the side of the road, in a garage and in a basement. We’ve even conducted
interviews with our blood alcohol content over the legal limit, but this marks
the first time we’ve recorded next to a room filled with women dressed in
spandex doing something called ‘body pump.’
That’s right, you’ll want to listen to this one.
Enjoy!

Petersen also chats about tourism and tax revenue, how Ogden stacks up in the outdoor industry, cycling and traveling the world with Mayor Caldwell, the importance of raising outdoorsy kids, and much more. Jenny Scothern - GOAL Interview
Tuesday May 05, 2015
Tuesday May 05, 2015
We wrap up our interviews
with Jenny Scothern, our gracious
hostess and officially the Executive Director of The GOAL Foundation. Jenny listens to all the great ideas The GOAL
board offers her team, but Jenny can turn great ideas and make them a reality,
of course with the help from Mike, Bree, Clarisse and CT. No doubt, Jenny is in charge though. She was in charge of this interview too; she
was running an open house, had packet pick-up in a few hours and a half
marathon to stage in a couple of days.
She doesn’t have all day to chat with a couple of knuckleheads with a
microphone. We got her to sit down long
enough to talk about her first half marathon in Moab and how the hills of Ogden
helped her train. It was an honor to sit
down and chat with Jenny and all the community partners who attended GOAL’s
open house.

Tuesday May 05, 2015
Tuesday May 05, 2015
Holin Wilbanks
took Mayor Caldwell’s old job as the PR Director for Weber County…could we be
talking to the future Mayor of Ogden?
Holin answers ‘no’ without hesitation but we’ll see, right? Holin does offer us some insight into
fostering relationships with folks who’s homes are affected with the many
events Weber County hosts every year.
She’s also in charge of maintaining the County’s ‘cool factor.’

Carolyn Brierly - GOAL Interview
Tuesday May 05, 2015
Tuesday May 05, 2015
Carolyn Brierley was the Ogden Marathon in 1999. She was the race director, committee chair
and the whole committee. The Mayor asked
her to plan and stage the inaugural Ogden Marathon with just a 4 month lead
time, and she pulled it off with 600 runners that first year….Wow! Carolyn retired as the events coordinator for
Ogden City, and enjoyed her retirement for about two days before being tapped
as the Historic 25th Business Association Director. Carolyn gets stuff done and brings the cool
factor to 25th Street…you gotta see her car!

Tuesday May 05, 2015
Bryan J. Smith is
another veteran of the Goodyear Podcast hot-seat. Brian is also the official photographer of
The GOAL Foundation and the brainchild behind Only in Ogden. Bryan isn’t a ‘drone guy,’ be believes
climbing a rock wall and going on adventures is the only approved method to
capturing the best moments on film. Bryan also likes it ‘fat.’ Whaaat?
